Clara Yoder was surrounded by her family in her Willamina home when she peacefully passed away Friday, July 31, 2020. Clara was 80 years old.
Clara was born to Abraham and Katie Garver on March 30, 1940, on the family farm outside of Hutchinson, Kansas. She had seven older brothers and sisters, and one younger brother.
Clara married John Henry Yoder of Kalona, Iowa, on December 12, 1963. They had three sons, Marlin, Robert, and Dwayne, and in 1978 the Yoder family moved to Willamina, Oregon. Clara often referred to the Willamette Valley as the “promised land” and loved the evergreen trees, the beautiful flowers, and the fresh berries and fruit.
Clara was saved in 1976 and shortly after moving to Oregon she and the boys joined Sheridan Baptist Church; she was a faithful member there until her passing. Within a short time, John began attending with Clara and their family served the Lord together. She and John taught the teen Sunday School Class for many years, and you could always count on Clara to make a meal for someone in need or bring a delicious dessert to a church potluck.
In 1994 Clara took on her most favorite title, Grammy, when her first granddaughter was born. She had five granddaughters whom she loved very much.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, three of her sisters, and her son, Marlin, who passed away in 2011.
Clara is survived by her husband of 56 years, John (Willamina, OR); Marlin’s wife Penny Yoder (Flower Mound, TX) and their family- Alyssa and Robert Dillard (Flower Mound, TX), Emily and Micah Yapp (Concord, GA), and Kira Yoder (Pensacola, FL); son Robert (Tualatin OR); and son Dwayne, his wife Sonia and their daughters Kailey and Mikenna Yoder (Willamina, OR). She is also survived by her sister, Sarah Schrock (Colgate, OK).
Clara will be missed by her family, her church, and the many people who knew her. Her graveside service will be Thursday, August 6, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mennonite Cemetery near Willamina. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sheridan Baptist Church Children’s Education Center. Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center is caring for the family.
